CARLSBAD RACEWAY MONUMENT FUNDRAISER

Coming in February 2016!,  Donate now to help make it happen!

Since 1964, the Carlsbad Raceway served as one of the first action sports playgrounds and site of one of the biggest spectacles in sports on TV…the United States Grand Prix of Motocross on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. It first hosted a drag strip, then road course and motocross track, and finally a skateboard park.

The raceway literally put Carlsbad on the map with the thousands upon thousands who dragged, rode, and skated there every week plus the millions upon millions who watched the spectacles of the USGP and Superbikes once a year on ABC.

All people who enjoy action sports today owe a small debt to those pioneers of dirt, asphalt and vertical concrete who called the Carlsbad Raceway home.

Sadly, in 2004 the last moto was ridden there and the track was turned under to make room for development and progress, leaving only memories.

Now, the Road 2 Recovery Foundation has teamed up with a group of dedicated, passionate, Carlsbad Raceway fans and racing legends along with the City of Carlsbad, to build a permanent, interpretive monument in the Palomar Forum Park on the corner of Palomar Airport Road and Melrose Avenue overlooking the site. People who enjoyed the raceway or those who just heard the tales (both long and tall) of this famous destination for action sports will be able to learn a little about all the raceway’s attributes and perhaps reflect back to what happened began there over 40 years ago.

Perhaps they’ll catch a slight whiff of two-stroke moto exhaust or burnt rubber in the air.
